College Board Meeting
Reminder that the College Board meeting will be held on Friday 19th August.
Friendship Day – Primary School Assembly
At our primary school assembly on Friday, our year 2 students from 6.3 performed their T4W story innovation of ‘How to Put a Pet Kangaroo to Bed’. Their play was creative and entertaining. Our choir then sang a beautiful song about friendships to remind us all of the importance of our friends. It was so great to see the entire audience captivated, smiling and laughing, especially our parents, particularly as there were quite a number in attendance.

School Leaders Assembly Reports
Art Captain
As an art captain I enjoy helping in artworks and fun projects. Last term we were given the opportunity to help with the NAIDOC poster. We had a fun time painting and loved the finished product. We hope to do more this term.

Current Affairs
Let’s talk about the state of our environment. Floods, drought, bushfires and natural disasters have always been a part of life in Australia. Experts say it’s getting more serious because of climate change. They also say this can be fixed with a lot of hard work.
Also, there are positive events like, 23-year-old Nedd Brockman is running 3800km across Australia. He plans to raise almost $100,000 to help combat homelessness. Wow! Isn’t that amazing?
As you may notice, recess and lunch has been changed to late in the day. If you want to order something in recess times, we highly recommend that you order in the morning, otherwise there might be nothing left.

Tech Ninjas
Our job is to:
- Collect the iPads at the end of the day.
- Learn how to use robots and help other classes use them.
- Help with digital competitions and incursions.
- Report any missing iPads to Mrs Bishop.
Belen
Eco Warriors
Being an eco warrior is a helpful job. We pick up rubbish around the school to help our school have a good and healthy environment, but it would be helpful if you could put your own rubbish in the bin too.
I hope you have seen the improvement lately.

Recycling in the Creative Zone
On Friday, Room 6.5 visited the cooking room in the high school to observe how the students were sorting their rubbish. Mrs Mangan showed our year 3 students the types of rubbish the classes collect throughout the week and how students are encouraged to either recycle, reuse or place their rubbish in the general waste bin. Our students found this presentation very interesting. Thanks to Mrs Mangan and her class for inviting us to the Creative Zone.

Numeracy Games in 6.2
Our year 1/2 class play numeracy games every morning when they arrive at school. All PS classrooms open at 8:30am so students have the opportunity to prepare themselves for the day.

Mathematics in 5.2
Room 5.2 is working towards finding common misconceptions in Mathematics and how to solve them by challenging learning experiences.
Last Wednesday, our whole class worked on a common misunderstanding that decimals only separate numbers of the same size.

Curtin Volunteers
Each week, a small group of year 6 students has the opportunity to work with Curtin University students. Volunteers will meet with students for one hour at a time, to help them read through passages and complete comprehension exercises of varying difficulty. Within this process, natural opportunities for conversations regarding individual students’ pastoral care needs and future goals can arise; tutors will use the opportunities to provide students with support and problem-solving strategies.
This program provides Curtin University students with the opportunity to develop their skills and extend their understanding of teaching and learning processes in our primary school. Our volunteers respect the uniqueness of their positions and honour the integrity of their capacity to influence our students through constructive feedback. Cannington Community College is fortunate to have forged this partnership with one of our local universities.

Year 9 Dance Theatre
This term, the Year 9 students in Dance Theatre are learning some K-Pop moves! Our special guest, Jayson, from 'Diversity Studios' is visiting our class to teach us some classic K-Pop choreography. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn about and experiment with different dance styles from all over the world.
We have also been working on our Kabuki performances which is a traditional Japanese cultural performance involving traditional costumes, music, dance and singing. So stay tuned for more pictures of our international performance journey!

Positive Behaviour Faction House Points
Students receive a faction token when staff members observe them demonstrating one or more of our school values; RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, EXCELLENCE and PRIDE.
Breakfast Club at CCC

We are very happy to announce the commencement of our Breakfast Club program at CCC.
Breakfast Club will operate on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 8:00 – 8:30am and is open to all students - Primary and Secondary.
It’s a great opportunity for our students to start the day with a simple, healthy breakfast and to socialise with friends in the Student Services courtyard.
We are also happy for students to pop in and grab something ‘to go’ if they would prefer to do so.
A big thank you to Karen Cooper, who will be coordinating the Breakfast Club on Mondays, and to Crossroads Church, who have kindly donated staff and supplies for the program setup.
Swimming Lessons
Reminder to Parents/Guardians that swimming lessons commence on Monday 15 August for PP – Year 6 students.
Cannington’s Got Talent – Save the Date
Cannington’s Got Talent is back for 2022.
It will be held in the undercover area on Friday 9th September. Primary students interested in performing will begin auditions on Monday 22nd August. Stay tuned for more details. We hope you can join us for this exciting event.
Primary Learning Journey
On Wednesday, 7 September, we will be hosting a Learning Journey afternoon in the Primary School from 4:00pm until 6:00pm. This is a great opportunity for parents to view displays and activities in the classrooms and undercover area.

Cameras at School Events
Parents are advised that they may not publish images or videos made at school events. Parents individually give permission for images to be used by College staff in College publications, and we keep a current list of students for whom we don’t have permission. Parents may not assume permission to record and then publish images of other parents’ children. It is important that we respect individuals’ privacy.
School Playground Equipment
The use of the playground equipment is not permitted outside of school hours for safety and insurance reasons. All children should arrive at school by 8:30am and be picked up promptly at the end of school at 2.50pm or at 2.35pm on Wednesday.
Driver Reminder
Drivers are reminded of the need to be very cautious in the College car parks and Wharf Street, particularly at peak times (start and end of the school day). There are many children and adult pedestrians in the vicinity at these times and vehicle traffic is quite heavy. The posted speed limit (40 km/h) is the allowable maximum – but it may still be too high for the conditions. Drivers must always drive to the prevailing conditions. It is our job to control our vehicles safely at all times. Particular care is needed when turning from or onto Wharf Street.
Going to school every day really matters
At school, teachers plan programs in a sequence, so children build on skills and activities from one day to the next.
Developing the habit of going to school regularly from Kindergarten is vitally important so children don’t miss out on important ideas and skills they need for future learning.
You can help make every day matter by:
- Talking positively about school so your child is happy to go each day.
- Showing interest in what your child is doing at school and talking with the teacher about what you can do at home.
- Setting play dates to help your child make friends.
- Teaching your child how to share and take turns.
- Arriving at school and collecting your child from school on time.
- Making sure your child gets nutritious meals each day and enough sleep each night.
- Making appointments with doctors, dentists and specialists after school or during school holidays.
- Taking family holidays during school holidays and not during term time.
If your child is unwell and unable to go to school, telephone or text the school to let the teacher know. If your child misses a day, talk with the teacher to find out how you can help your child catch up. If you are having difficulty getting your child to school, talk with the teacher.
Taking an interest in what your child does at school, helping in class and being part of the school community shows your child how much you value school.
